What type of people worship at Founders MCC?
Our congregation can be described in one word: diverse. You will see all of God’s human creation at Founders MCC on Sunday morning, including young and old, women and men, gay and straight, singles and families, folks of every race and color, and everyone in between. We truly believe that God’s love is for all people.
What time does worship start, how long is the service, and what is it like?
The experience of worship at Founders Metropolitan Community Church is as unique as the community that worships with us. We are alive in worship and in witness, bringing voice to the inclusive love of God with varied musical styles and diverse liturgical and seasonal experiences. We actually offer three opportunities to worship God each and every Sunday.
Our 9:00 AM Service runs approximately an hour. This service is best described as liturgical. We sing hymns (primarily from the New Century Hymnal) as well as contemporary Christian music. We have responsive readings, a sermon, and celebrate Communion weekly. When you leave, you will feel as if you have been in a house of prayer, coming away refreshed and ready for the week. The clergy wear simple vestments. While we do not have our Kids’ Club program during this service, children are always welcome.
At our 11:00 AM Celebration Worship, we gather for approximately 90 minutes to praise, pray and be blessed with a relevant message for our lives today. We celebrate Communion every week and try to make this Sacred Meal real for us in the 21st century. Most of the music is contemporary Christian and Gospel music, and the worship is energetic. During this service, we have Kids’ Club, an opportunity for our children, ages 4 years old – 11 years old to have a place of their own for a time of Christian teaching. We also have changing facilities for infants right off the front lobby.
ICM (Iglesia de la Comunidad Metropolitana) meets at 1:30PM. This service, which lasts about 75 minutes, is best described as having a charismatic catholic flavor. The community is welcoming, and we share our love for God, the Word, and one another fully. The Holy Eucharist is celebrated in this service as well.
What should I wear?
There’s no formal dress code at Founders MCC, and the attire on Sunday morning is just as varied as our worship styles. You will see a bit of everything: people in their “Sunday best,” folks in “business casual” and those in jeans and t-shirts. You’ll even find during the warmer months people wearing shorts and flip-flops! It’s completely up to you to dress to your level of comfort. Most importantly, though, we look forward to seeing you, not what you’re wearing.
Is childcare available?
We have Kids’ Club for our children ages 4 – 11 years old that is held during the 11:00 am worship service in the Rosa Parks Room behind the Sanctuary. If you could bring your child to the class before service begins then she or he can meet the other kids and the teachers. We always have two teachers with the children at all times who have passed background checks and are trained in the curriculum.
For our younger children, they are definitely welcome at all of our services. If you would like to bring them some books or toys to play with during service, that is just fine. We have a crying/changing room located off of the lobby, if you would like, at any time, to just relax with your child outside of the sanctuary.
